Every afternoon used to go the exact same way in our house.
The kids walked in, dropped their backpacks, and asked for the tablet. If I said no, I was the villain. If I said yes, I lost them for the rest of the night.
I didn't feel like a mom anymore. I felt like a screen-time referee.
Then we visited my sister-in-law — and I noticed something strange.
Her three kids weren't on the couch. They were standing at a giant map on the wall, whisper-arguing, taking turns with a marker. For twenty minutes, nobody asked for a screen. Nobody even looked at us.
"That thing bought my evenings back," she told me. "Best money I've spent on them in years."
